Cheerleader Tryouts

The two mandatory cheerleader clinics will be held on September 14 & 15 from 3:00-4:40.  Tryouts will be held on September 16 from 3:00-4:00.  All students must have a current sports packet and physical turned in to office by Friday, September 9.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact coaches Lindsay Beaston (lindsay.beaston@wssd115.org) or Ashley Brown (ashley.brown@wssd115.org).

Science Club

Does your child like to build things and do experiments?  If you answered yes, then the Whiteside Middle School Science Club is for your child!  Information about the science club was handed out in all science 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science classes on Monday, August 29.  Your child will need to return the registration form, activity fee and t-shirt order form with money by Monday, September 12th to to Ms. Terrie Stald in the office.

Softball, Baseball, and Soccer

Last week our softball, baseball, and soccer teams played three different schools:  Belle Valley, West Junior High, and Emge.  Our student athletes had nine games and they won all of them!  This afternoon they will play an away game at Signal Hill.

Student Council

All applications for Whiteside Middle School Student Council are due to Mrs. Mentzer on the morning of Monday, August 29th.

Whiteside Middle School Band

Join the Whiteside Band at the Cardinals vs. Cubs baseball game on September 13, 2016.  Join us at Busch Stadium and see the Whiteside Middle School Band on the field as they lead the crowd in The Star Spangled Banner.  Reserve your tickets now at the middle school office.  The last day to buy tickets will be August 29.  Tickets will be sent home on September 2.

Photo Club

The Photo Club will have an informational meeting for all interested 7th and 8th graders after school on Wednesday, August 31st from 3-3:50.  The meeting will be held in the art room (802).

Dr. Candace Hamilton

I am excited to announce that our own Dr. Candace Hamilton  is one of the ten finalists for Illinois Teacher of the Year!  This is a very prestigious honor as it involves a  very rigorous nomination/application process.  Dr. Hamilton will now be interviewed by a panel of previous "Teacher of the Year" winners, who will narrow the field to three.  The state superintendent will then view the videos of those interviews and will select the winner.  The finalists will be honored at the Those Who Excel banquet in late October and the winner will be announced at that time.   Congratulations, Dr. Hamilton!

First Day of School

We had an outstanding first day of school!  It was great to see all of the students back in classrooms ready to learn and grow.  We are looking forward to partnering with you this year.

August 23rd will be our next baseball, softball, and soccer games.  The games start at 4pm.  Come on out and support the Warriors!

2016-2017 School Year

6th Grade Welcome Night

All 6th graders are invited to attend our 1st annual "Welocme" night on Friday, August 26th from 6-8 pm at Whiteside Middle School.

This event will be an opportunity for all 6th graders to get to know their peers and fellow students through fun, non-competitive activities.  The emphasis will be on positive communication, discovering common experiences, and sharing and listening to one another.  The more students share in common, the  more apt they are to encourage each other and build up their peers!

This will be an action packed and fun filled evening and I hope that all 6th graders are able to join us for the 1st annual event.

Open House

Open House will be on August 18 from 6-8pm.  I am very excited to have students and parents back in our building!  I look forward to partnering with families as we work together in helping children reach their full potential.

National Night Out

Come and celebrate the 33rd Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 23rd at Three Springs Park!  It will be a great family event with food, face painting, games, crime prevention tips, and child ID kits.  Come and join the fun!

5th Grade Parent Night

This is a friendly reminder that the 5th grade parent night will be held on Tuesday, August 16 from 7-8pm.  There will be a brief presentation and then parents will go on a building tour.

Dr. Candace Hamilton

Dr. Candace Hamilton, 8th grade science teacher, was honored last month when her Paper Airplane Inquiry Lab was awarded to be an Exemplar from the EQuIP Peer Review Panel.  The Panel stated, "The unit is interesting and engaging.  It provides a short, complex text worth reading multiple times and a longer extended text sufficiently complex to meet the needs of the grade level. "

This was a rewarding, but arduous eight month process which involved multiple revisions and extensive communication between the EQuIP Review Panel and Dr. Hamilton.  Her Exemplar lesson will be posted on the EQuIP section of Achieve's website along with the quality review feedback from the EQuIP Peer Review Panel.  It will also be shared with Achieve's partners in order to increase awareness and access to exemplary materials.  Dr. Hamilton feels extremely honored to help EQuiP achieve its goal of making high-quality and CCSS-aligned instructional materials available to educators across the country.  We are honored to have Dr. Hamilton as our 8th grade science teacher!

Softball Team

Our softball team is off to a great start!  At the first game of the season, Whiteside defeated Millstadt 15 to 8.  Let's go Warriors!

Parent Teacher Club

This is a friendly reminder that the Parent Teacher Club (PTC) Welcome Back Meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 9th from 6:30 to 8:00pm at Whiteside Elementary School.  The PTC supports our students by sponsoring many important events and programs.  I hope you can attend the meeting!
