Eden's Army

Service learning is an important part of what we do at Whiteside Middle School.  Thanks to our Student Council for leading one of our latest service projects:  Hat Day for Eden's Army.  Our school learned about this nonprofit organization created to help families at the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at St. Louis Children's Hospital.  Thanks to Mrs. Tracy Mentzer for her leadership with the Whiteside Middle School Student Council.

An Hour of Code

Thanks to Mrs. Kristin Runyan for holding our first Hour of Code Night.  Our students and families spent the evening coding together in honor of National Computer  Science Week.  Coding has become an important part of our curriculum as we prepare students for college and future careers.  Of course, no event is successful without the help of other faculty and staff members.  I would also like to thank Lindsay Beaston, Sheila Buch, Michelle Burton, Julie Crask, Cindy Doder, Candace Hamilton, Jean Hasenstab, Natalie Jonring, Meghan King, Mary Sabo, and Sue Schliepman-Burke for assisting with this successful event.

Robotics Team: Water Wizards

Our Robotics Team, the Water Wizards, did an outstanding job at the regional robotics competition that was held at Whiteside Middle School.  There were 18 schools competing and our own Water Wizards won the Judges' Award!  Here is what the judges said about the Water Wizards:

"Grace under pressure:  Keeping your composure under difficult circumstances or staying calm and cool when things go wrong.  This team, when their robot simply refused to run, stayed calm and gave articulate, complete and thoughtful answers to the judges' questions.  The winner of the Judges' Award is the Water Wizards."

Congratulations to the Water Wizards!

T-Shirt Launcher

Our Science Club is always busy working on experiments and challenges.  The last challenge centered around the laws of physics, force, and motion as the students created and tested t-shirt launchers.  Thanks to Dr. Hamilton and Mrs. Phillips for their leadership and dedication to the Science Club!

Robotics Team: Hydro Bots

  • Our robotics team, the Hydro Bots, did an outstanding job at the regional robotics competition that was held at Whiteside Middle School.  There were 18 teams competing and our own Hydro Bots placed 6th overall in the table top exercises (the top 5 teams go on to the state competition at the University of Illinois).  The Hydro Bots were impressive and we look forward to the growth they will show in next year's season!
