5th Grade PARCC Testing

5th grade paper/pencil PARCC testing will take place from Monday, April 3 through Tuesday, April 11.  The 5th graders will take one test a day at 9:30.  They will first take all of the English Language Arts tests and then take the mathematics tests.

7th and 8th Grade Spring Dance

The 7th and 8th Grade Spring Dance will be held on Friday, April 7th from 7-9 pm at the middle school.  Admission is $2.00 for the dance.

Parent Teacher Club Social

The Parent Teacher Club is hosting another social for Whiteside School District Parents.  This fun event will take place on Friday, March 31st from 6-7:30 pm at Hop House on Central Park Drive.  Appetizers will be provided!  Your middle school children can attend game night while you attend the social (students must register for the game night by Wednesday, March 29).  Before we know it, the school year will be drawing to an end and we will be consumed with our hectic summer schedules.  Come meet other parents, provide feedback, and enjoy a good time with new and old friends at the social.

Game Night

I am excited to announce that our next WOW event will take place on Friday, March 31st from 7-8 pm.  I hope your child will join us as we have a great time playing a variety of board games, participating in life-sized games, having fun with friends, making new friends, and enjoying snacks. The admission to this fun night is free!

WOW activities are designed to encourage inclusion and acceptance of all of our students.  Space is limited so get those permission slips back to school by Wednesday, March 29th.  Your child can get a permission slip from the office.

8th Grade PARCC Testing

The 8th grade online PARCC testing will begin tomorrow, March 28th and go through Thursday, March 30th.

Papa Johns Night

Please support our school by ordering from Papa John's tonight, March 23rd.  Up to 25% of your order will be donated to Whiteside Middle School.  We earn a higher donation when families order online.  Families must enter the school promo code (SSW007) when they order online.  If our school achieves at least $150.00 in sales, one class party will be awarded to the school.  Orders must be placed at the 1630 Carlyle Avenue location.  All the proceeds from this sale will be used to purchase more technology for our classrooms.

Teen Trivia Night

It is not too late for your child to register for the Teen Trivia Night that will be held on Friday, March 24th.  The doors open at 6 pm and the trivia starts at 6:30 pm.  Admission is free!  There will be cash prizes, attendance prizes, popcorn, and soda.  Students can also bring in their own food.  Mrs. Tami Muren will take student registrations for this fun night all the way up to the morning of Friday, March 24th.

Teen Trivia Night

The Teen Trivia Night will be held on Friday, March 24th at Whiteside Middle School.  The doors will open at 6:00 pm and the trivia starts at 6:30.  Admission is free, but 6th, 7th, and 8th graders must register in advance in order to attend the event.  Students can register a table of eight, or any combination of friends.  There will be cash prizes and attendance prizes.  Students may bring food, but there will be free popcorn and soda.  I hope to see your children at the Teen Trivia Night!

7th and 8th Grade Visitors

Thanks to four Illinois State Police Officers for meeting with our 7th and 8th graders.  They discussed positive digital citizenship and the potential dangers of social media with our students.

Scholar Bowl Season

The Whiteside Middle School Scholar Bowl Team had another successful season this year.  They placed second in the conference tournament.  We are proud of their hard work and representation of our school.  Enjoy the team photo!

T.J.'s Pizza Fundraiser

Our T.J's Pizza Fundraiser kicked off yesterday, March 13.  Did your child bring home the information about the sale?

Student Council Hat Day: Joshua's Great Things

  Every month our Whiteside Student Council organizes an important service project.  This Friday, March 10, the student council will be sponsoring a Hat Day for Joshua's Great Things.  Joshua was a Whiteside student who would have been in 7th grade this year, but he unfortunately lost his battle with brain cancer. The student council is also selling shirts for $5.00 in the school store all this week.  Wear your shirts and hats on Friday, March 10th to support the Joshua's Great Things Foundation and help families dealing with childhood brain cancer.  To find out more information, please click the link below to view the video.

Career Day

Thanks to Emily Sackett for organizing our third annual 8th grade career day.  We had excellent presenters who inspired our 8th grade students to educate themselves about possible career choices.  Enjoy the photos from this informative event.

Track and Field Tryouts

Track and field tryouts will be held on March 21st and 22nd from 3:10 to 4:45 at the Whiteside Middle School Track.  A sports packet and a current school physical must be turned in by March 15th in order for students to tryout.

Parent Teacher Club Meeting

There will be a Parent Teacher Club meeting at Whiteside Middle School on March 7 at 7 pm.  I hope to see you at the meeting!

McTeacher's Night

Come on out to support the Whiteside School District at the McDonalds McTeacher Night on Tuesday, March 7th from 4-8 pm.  Visit with other Whiteside families and teachers while you eat dinner.  A portion of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to Whiteside!  (McDonalds located at 906 Carlyle Avenue, across from Belleville East High School).  I hope to see you there!
