Harvey Hat Day

Our hearts go out to the people in Houston suffering due to Hurricane Harvey.

In our 7th and 8th grade social studies classes, our students study current events.  After learning about Hurricane Harvey, some of our 8th grade students decided that they wanted to do their part to help.  They have been busy this week planning a hat day that will take place on Friday, September 1.

Thanks to our 8th graders for leading this effort.  Service learning is an important subject that is weaved throughout our curriculum.

5th Grade Visitors: Homer and Mr. Parker

On Wednesday, August 29th, 5th grade had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jeff Parker, investigator with the St. Clair County State's Attorney and his support dog, Homer.  Mr. Parker discussed important safety precautions with the students and of course, Homer was a big hit!  Thanks to Mr. Parker for meeting with our 5th graders.

Washington, D.C. Trip

Whiteside Middle School students are going to Washington, D.C.  This will be a great educational opportunity for our students.  There will be a parent meeting about the Washington, D.C. trip on September 19th at 6pm.  More details will be announced this week.

Baseball, Softball, and Soccer

Our teams had six games this past week and we won all six games!  Our next games are against West Junior High at Whiteside Middle School on Tuesday, August 29th at 4:15.  Let's cheer on our Warriors to more victories!

Photo Club

There will be a Photo Club introductory meeting on August 30th from 3:00-4:00 in room 802.  The Photo Club is open to all 7th and 8th grade students.  Thanks to Mrs. Schleipman-Burke for her leadership with this art organization.

Student Council Applications

The Student Council applications are due to Mrs. Mentzer on Monday, August 28.  Thanks to Mrs. Mentzer and her leadership with the Whiteside Middle School Student Council.

Great American Solar Eclipse

The first day of school for the 2017-2018 school year will always be a memorable one due to the Great American Solar Eclipse.  What a great opportunity and educational moment to be in public schools.  The best part was being able to watch and listen to the reactions from our students, faculty, and staff during this historic event.  I am grateful that we got the opportunity to experience the solar eclipse together as a school community.  It was "totality" awesome!

Successful First Day

Thanks to our students, faculty, and staff for a great first day of school for the 2017-2018 school year.  We are off to a fantastic start and I look forward to all the growth and learning that will take place this year at Whiteside Middle School.  One of the highlights of the day was greeting all our students and their families at the door in the morning.

Booster Club Meeting

There will be a Booster Club meeting on Wednesday, August 23rd at 5pm at Whiteside Middle School.  Please join this dedicated group of parents who work hard to provide opportunities for our student athletes.  Our athletes look sharp in all the new uniforms that have been purchased in the last year, thanks to our Whiteside Middle School Booster Club.

Warrior Welcome

On August 16, our Whiteside Ambassadors helped us welcome 40 new students.  Let's give them a warm Warrior Welcome!

Sports News

Our Warriors will be back in action on August 15 at 4:15.  Our soccer, softball, and baseball teams will play Wolf Branch.  Come on out and cheer on your Warriors!  It will be a great afternoon of competition.

Open House

Whiteside Middle School is ready for students!  Teachers are busy preparing lessons and our grounds/custodial crew has worked hard all summer to make our school look beautiful and inviting for student learning.  I can't wait to see all of our families at Open House on Thursday, August 17th from 6-8 pm.

6th Grade Welcome Night

All 6th graders are invited to attend our 2nd annual "Welcome" night on Friday, August 25th from 6-8 pm at Whiteside Middle School.

This event will be an opportunity for all 6th graders to get to know their peers and fellow students through fun, non-competitive activities.  The emphasis will be on positive communication, discovering common experiences, and sharing and listening to one another.  The more students share in common, the more apt they are to encourage each other and build up their peers!

This will be an action packed and fun filled evening and I hope that all 6th graders are able to join us for this event.

The Whiteside Warriors had a great start to our athletic season!  Our athletes shine in the classroom and on the field.

Welcome to Ms. Mary Sabo

Have you seen a new name on your 7th grade child's schedule?  Ms. Mary Sabo will be joining our English Language Arts Team at Whiteside Middle School.  She will be teaching 7th grade literature and reading strategies.  Ms. Sabo graduated with a degree in Secondary English Education from Missouri State University in May 2015.  She returned to school to work on a variety of literacy education, ESL, literature, and writing pedagogy classes.  Ms. Sabo is currently working on her Masters of Arts in Literature at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  We are looking forward to the expertise that Ms. Sabo will bring to Whiteside Middle School.

Soccer, Baseball, and Softball Games

Our first soccer, baseball, and softball games will be on Wednesday, August 9th at 4:15.  We will be playing Millstadt at Whiteside Middle School.  Come on out and support your Warriors in our first home games of the season!

Band Instrument Rental Night

On Thursday, August 10, we will have representatives from Halpin Music Company at Whiteside Middle School.  Please come by between 5:00-7:00.  They will be able to assist you with renting or buying an instrument, or perhaps even getting an instrument from home ready to play.  This is a convenient way to get your child ready for beginning band.  Students will need to have their instrument and book by August 21.

Parent Teacher Club

The Whiteside School District Parent Teacher Club Welcome Meeting will take place at Whiteside Elementary School on Tuesday, August 8th from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm.  Come for the food!  Come for the fun!  You do not want to miss this social!  Join us to find out what the Whiteside Parent Teacher Club is all about and how YOU can be involved in this great organization.  There will also be building tours of Whiteside Elementary School.

5th Grade Information Night

Welcome to our new 5th graders and their families!  I know that transitioning to Whiteside Middle School is a big step in a child's educational journey.  We are ready to assist with this important move.  On Thursday, August 17th at 5pm there will be a 5th grade informational meeting that you will not want to miss.  There will be a brief presentation and then families will go on tours of the building.  I hope to see all of our 5th grade families there.

New Student Orientation

I would like to give a Whiteside Welcome to our new students and their families.  New students are invited to attend our Warrior Welcome that will be held on Wednesday, August 16 at 11 am.  There will be a meet and greet session, a presentation, building tours, and a pizza luncheon.  The orientation will end at noon.  I hope to see all our new students at this event!
