Hour of Code Night

This year our District plans to participate in the Code.org - Hour of Code national event.  This program will begin in our schools during the first week of December to celebrate Computer Science Education Week.  The Hour of Code event invites students to work on tasks that teach basic programming skills in fun and engaging game formats.  Whiteside Middle School computer students participated in the Hour of Code week in class last year.  This year, we are inviting students to not only participate in the computer class, but also at an after school event.  We hope to encourage students to consider computer sciences and other STEM-related jobs as future careers.

Your child is invited to participate in Whiteside's first Hour of Code Night!  It will be after school on Thursday, December 7th from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm.  There will be snacks provided, some large group activities, plus at least an hour of time spent coding!  Parents and family members are invited to join in the fun beginning at 4 pm.  Students and parents will be invited to use the school's computer labs and chromebooks or bring their own personal devices to join the meeting.

In order to attend the event, your child must turn in a  signed permission slip by Tuesday, December 5th.  Permission slips are in the office.

I hope to see you at the Hour of Code!
