1st Annual Whiteside School District Health Fair

The first Whiteside Wellness and Fitness Fair took place last month.  Kids and parents loved the free giveaways, jumping rope, bowling, shooting hoops, throwing footballs, karate chopping, making a spirit stick, competing in the burpee challenge, having a computerized free wellness test, planting a garden in a glove, and meeting athletes from Belleville East.

Special thanks to Mrs. Erin Connolly who started the Warrior 5k years ago and had a vision for a corresponding fair.  Thank you also to all of the teachers and volunteers who helped with the 5K.

Thank you to all of the community businesses and organizations (many of which were parents, students, or former students) that participated in the event: St. Clair Bowl, Doterra, Eckerts, Advantage Family Chiropractic, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Monsanto, 3T Martial Arts, Crossfit Metro East, Little Devils, Belleville East Football, Belleville East Girls' Basketball, Belleville East Boys' Basketball, and YMCA.

Special thanks to Dr. Candace Hamilton for working with Monsanto as a faculty advisor for the Garden in a Glove Activity as well as St. Elizabeth's Hospital for donating water and totes and the Hardy Family for donating Gatorade. Lastly, thank you to the Whiteside custodial staff as well as Mrs. Laurent and Mrs. Burke for helping with set up and take down for the event.  The first time event, in conjunction with the 5th annual 5k, was a great way to bring the community, families, students, former students, and staff together to promote healthy opportunities.  We hope that the first time event can lead to more opportunities in the future to connect to the community.

Sincerely,
