8th Grade Science: Paper Airplane Lab

The 8th Grade Science students posed as teams of engineers to help solve a problem while investigating the phenomenon of flight.  The students had to design a paper drone/airplane that could fly 5 meters in a 3 meter wide airspace and fly on its own once it left their hands.  The students had a great time planning, designing, building, testing their airplanes/drones, as well as measuring and analyzing data. The students had to modify and retest their design until they were successful.  To communicate their results, they presented their information to the class in a slideshow presentation. They learned that engineering often involves many failures on the road to success.
